
Sherry Antoine is a New York-based outreach consultant and speaker committed to addressing gender and diversity gaps. She is currently the program and outreach director of AfroCROWD, an outreach initiative and Wikimedia user group which seeks to increase awareness of the Wikimedia and free knowledge, culture and software movements among people of African descent. She is also a member of the board of the Internet Society of New York, whose mission is to assure the beneficial, and open evolution of the global Internet.
In her role with AfroCROWD, she has spoken both locally and internationally on the benefits and importance of knowledge access and inclusive participation in Wikimedia culture. She has represented AfroCROWD at the United Nations, organizing at the United Nations headquarters in partnership with the Swedish Mission to the United Nations, Wikimedia New York City, the UN Women, and the UN Youth Envoy, among other United Nations organizations.
She has also spoken at Columbia University, Pratt Institute and keynoted on behalf of AfroCROWD to the North American Wikimedia community.
Additionally, she has served on the planning committee for the NGO Committee on the Status of Women, New York (NGO/CSW/NY), one of three women’s committees of the Conference of NGOs in Consultative Relationship with the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women.
Sherry has also spoken at Microsoft Headquarters in New York City as a mentor to you young girls of color interested in Information Technology and Media, in a partnership between Unicef and the Mayor’s Office of the City of New York.
She is also an elected member of the Board of Directors of the Internet Society of New York.
She holds a master’s degree in public administration from the American University School of Public Affairs, has researched and written about international digital trends and spent years dedicated to public outreach, having started her career as a press secretary at the Connecticut House of Representatives.
She resides in New York City.
